In a major development for India’s onshore oil and gas sector, DEEP Industries Limited, a leading Indian oilfield services company, has been awarded a key drilling contract by Selan Exploration to execute a three-well drilling campaign in the Cambay Production Sharing Contract (PSC). This project is part of a $20 million work program aimed at ramping up production in Gujarat’s Cambay Basin.
The drilling activity, which is expected to begin in September 2025, involves collaboration between Selan Exploration and its joint venture partner, Synergia Energy Ltd. (WI: 50%). As per their agreement, Synergia will be fully carried by Selan throughout the execution of the drilling work, in exchange for a 50% working interest in the Cambay PSC.
DEEP Industries: An Indian Oilfield Champion
Headquartered in India, DEEP Industries Limited has built a solid reputation in providing integrated energy services, including drilling, workover, and gas compression solutions. The Cambay PSC contract highlights the company’s growing influence in India’s upstream sector.
The involvement of DEEP Industries showcases the capability of Indian firms to manage complex onshore drilling operations, helping boost domestic production and self-reliance under India’s energy strategy.
Workover Operations on Legacy Wells
In addition to the new wells, Selan has also contracted a 50-tonne workover rig to carry out intervention and stimulation operations on existing legacy wells. These operations resumed in June 2025, aiming to increase recovery from wells that have seen intermittent production since April 2022.
This dual approach—drilling new wells while optimizing older ones—signals a comprehensive field development strategy at Cambay PSC.
Real-Life Impact: Boosting Domestic Production
The Cambay Basin is a historically significant petroleum region in Gujarat, and the renewed activity will likely support India’s ambition to reduce dependence on imported hydrocarbons.
DEEP Industries taking center stage in this development not only strengthens its domestic presence but also sets a benchmark for Indian contractors in the upstream segment.
What to Expect Next?
- Drilling Start Date: September 2025
- Workover Operations: Ongoing since June 2025

The Indian upstream sector will be closely watching this development. If successful, this campaign may open up new opportunities for domestic contractors and enhance the overall competitiveness of India’s oilfield service ecosystem.
